Portillo scored his 1st goal this season for Osasuna!!!

Mallorca 1-1 Osasuna

Javier Portillo struck six minutes from time to win a valuable point for Osasuna at Mallorca in a 1-1 draw in the Primera Liga.
The former Real Madrid striker came off the bench midway through the second half and provided the moment of inspiration needed to level after the visitors had chased the game since Mallorca's early opener, which was scored by Basque striker Aritz Aduriz.

Osasuna also trailed at home to Villarreal on the opening weekend, but hit back to claim a point in that match.

Mallorca, though, had begun the season in disappointing fashion as they were thrashed 3-0 by Valencia.

The islanders appeared in turmoil in the build-up to this match.

They had lost several key players over the summer, with Daniel Guiza, Ariel Ibagaza and David Navarro all leaving the club.

The team's fans are disappointed by an apparent lack of ambition and talk of an imminent takeover continues to unsettle the club.

Coach Gregorio Manzano is also thought to be questioning his own position after three successful years in charge.

And things could have got even worse for the islanders after just six minutes of action in this match, when Osasuna's Iran midfielder Javad Nekounam struck the crossbar with a powerful close-range shot following Jaroslav Plasil's cross.

Having survived that narrow escape, Mallorca then took the lead after 15 minutes, when Aduriz latched on to an excellent long pass from Mario Suarez and slotted the ball underneath Ricardo to give the home fans some much-needed cheer.

It was the club's first goal of the season and also the first in Mallorca colours for former Athletic Bilbao striker Aduriz, who signed for Manzano's side a week before the start of the season.

Osasuna looked for a quick response and soon began to dominate.

Kike Sola headed over the bar from a corner as the visitors pressed and Josetxo headed straight at Miguel Angel Moya shortly afterwards.

Jose Angel Ziganda's side enjoyed the majority of the play in the build-up to half-time, but failed to create any more opportunities of note before the interval.

And Mallorca seemed content to sit back and absorb the pressure.

This pattern continued after the restart, but Mallorca were playing a dangerous game as they looked to protect their slender advantage for the remainder of the game.

They were almost punished by Nekounam after 56 minutes, but the Iranian was off target with his header.

And Nekounam came even closer 10 minutes later, when he saw his low shot sail just past the post.

At the other end, Aduriz missed a great chance to put the game out of Osasuna's reach, but opted to pass instead of shooting and the chance was lost.

It would have been harsh on Osasuna, who had dominated the game for long periods.

And the visitors finally got their reward six minutes from time, when Portillo swept home Plasil's cross from close-range.

Josemi lashed out at the striker after the goal and was shown the red card, although Portillo clearly exaggerated the contact.
